In response to the message that I will re-post below, posted on Monday by "justthefacts":

To Anon. yet again someone is blaming the US and UK for the deaths of Iraqi civilians under the sanctions imposed upon them. Unfortunately for those civilians they have a leader who does not give a flying •••• about them, or he could have satisfied UN demands for weapons inspections years ago. Are these demands reasonable ? Well let me see..... Saddam has started two wars with his neighbours, has slaughtered Kurds with chemical weapons ( mostly the elderly and children), has made repeated attempts to develop/acquire nuclear weapons technology, and will murder immediately anyone who stands against him. HELLO ! YOU STUPID IDIOTS WHO BLAME US/UK FOR IRAQI DEATHS. DO YOU REALLY WANT SADDAM RUNNING AROUND WITH WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION ? WHAT THE HELL ELSE IS USA SUPPOSED TO DO WITH HIM ? PAT HIM ON THE HEAD AND SAY "BE A GOOD DICTATOR "? this is perfect example of Arab world blaming US foreign policy when the root cause is festering within their own society.


First of all, I would not at all be surprised if Iraq is in some way behind last Tuesday's attack....in addition to Osama Bin Laden's "Al Qaeda" and any other of the vile terrorist factions that lurk within our borders and the borders of many other countries. Would anyone be surprised if it was revealed that Bin Laden and Hussein have worked together, or cooperated in some way, to mastermind the diabolical, evil plot against the U.S.?

Saddam Hussein is an evil, despotic, psychotic, power-hungry dictator who resembles many other evil, despotic, psychopathic, power-hungry rulers of history (unfortunately, the list is long...Idi Amin, Pol Pot, I could go on forever). The people of Iraq are enslaved because of his rule. He must be EXTINGUISHED from the face of the Earth. As for Osama Bin Laden...well, sorry but I can't post on this bulletin board the words I would use to describe him... must also be EXTINGUISHED.

To justthefacts- You are obviusly someone who has kept up with the world. But what disturbs me about your argument is that you selectively left out some facts that, in a court of law, would be egual to withholding evidence. In so doing you have unfairly prejudiced the jury and in the spirit of full disclosure I have decided to answer your charges.

That America was an ardent supporter of Sadam Hussein's dictatorship is a fact. They knew full well of his atrocities with the Kurds when they sent him supporting funds and gave him the green light to poisin gas a generation of Persian youth and all other trouble makers in the region. They did this because he was a convenient foil to the ayatollahs minions of which they had some responsibilty for. Because the USA was also the strong supporter(read weapons and CIA expertise donater) of the Shah of Iran. The same shah whose death squads had the Iranians tap dancing their way to their graves if they opposed him. The reaction to the shah was what we have seen through time. The pendulum of political power always swings in extremes. Thus we had, what was then the seeds, of Islamic fundamentalism develop in the land of Farsi.

When the carpet bombing started in Baghdad, we, The USA, knew that the people of Iraq were powerless to dethrone Sadam. You even talk of their oppression in your post. In fact, it is widely understood that the reason the forces didn't continue on into Baghdad, and dethrone mr. Hussein, was that the American leadership were afraid of the potential suitors they saw waiting in the wings. They thought it was better to have the evil we all know. So how are these people not innocent?

In mentioning The Hon. Anwar Sadat, you made it sound as if it were the entire Arab world who were to blame for his death. Isn't that like blaming the entire USA for Kennedy's assassination or Martin Luther King's Or Bobby Kennedy's or even Malcolm X's? Talk about massive generalizations.

And you say that our leadership in this part of the world is always pure and circumspect but I do recall someone who was an active member of the Klan becoming a governor in Louisiana not too long ago. We have also had other very colorful politicians from that part of the country and the south(in the past?).

In mentioning Saladin you forget to mention that his claim to fame was in putting infidels to their death and defending his part of the empire(Egypt)from all. Including a great christian crusader of African ancestry called Prester John so I'm not so sure that he's someone you ought to bring up in this conversation.

When bringing up US foreign policy some of us are only trying to give a context to what has happened. The same way we have tried to understand what had made a man like Timmy Mcveigh do what he did. In doing this, some of us hope to shed some light on the situation so that we can avoid the same pitfalls. I personally would like people to understand that, just like when you have spilled wine or food at another's place, you should feel duty bound to clean up any mess, internationally,you have made. But do so in a way that does not disturb the political ecosystem of the region that is being cleaned.

So my friend instead of changing your moniker to "justsomefacts" try and include the entire case and your title will become gloriously appropriate.

May a higher being bless the righteous and all who stand with the righteous.

To TV and Justthefacts - I forgot to mention to you that some of the most awful dictators also came from Europe, i.e. Hitler, Mussolini etc..
Again, please include all the facts or it begins to look biased and that's what got us all here in the first place.
