SAFETY TIPS FOR PERSONS POSTING MISSING PERSON INFORMATION

Urgent Message

People who are posting information regarding a missing person should be aware of some safety issues.

Your Phone Number: When posting your phone number, know that anyone can get your home address online from that number. Go to a "reverse phone search" at www.anywho.com or www.switchboard.com and put in your phone number, you may get a shock. You are posting information for everyone to see, the good and the bad. So be careful . You may be opening yourself up to a bad person stopping by. It could be a burglar or even a terrorist. I am not saying this is going to happen, but I want you to be aware it could happen.Visit the Excite Website www.excite.com and sign up for a free email account. Once you have a new email account, they also provide you with a free phone number. You can call the number and listen to messages that people have left for you.

Your Website: Did you know people can find out very detailed information about you online? If you have a website, people can find out your name, address, phone number, how long you have had the site, etc. And know, all this with just a click of a button. Go to http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois

Do not post birthdates about missing persons. This allows bad people to use the information to obtain new ID's, open credit accounts and more. People can find out more about you than you think. EX: If you go to www.rootsweb.com , one may be able to find out your wedding date, county you were married in, how many times you have been married, etc. And DO NOT POST SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS OR DRIVERS LICENSE INFORMATION ONLINE

Photographs: We all know there are bad people in the world, so be aware that people can download a photograph and use it to make fake ID's
