Have learned that the Bryant/Nii/Feigenbaum/Orrell/Ivanosic/Connelly (see earlier bulletins 8/20 & 8/21) left the Hotel Pera Palas in Istanbul to view the eclipse in Cappadocia, around 8/8/99. From there, they definitely planned to go to Ephesus.

They were going to do some diving, and take a boat trip. I don't know if the trip was to arrive in, or depart from Ephesus. Any information on likely boat excursions to and from Ephesus would be appreciated.

Does anyone know the location of the reported tsunamai?

I don't know what route they planned to take from Ephesus back to Istanbul, but I have been told that they may have left some luggage at the Hotel Pera Palas, and will return there before returning to the States and Britain. Does anyone have any information on routes they would likely have taken to get back to Istanbul; road? plane? What is the status of these routes? Are they affected directly or indirectly by the earthquake or relief efforts?

What is the status of outgoing Turkish Air and Loufthansa flights from Istanbul?

I'm trying to locate a dear friend, Cem Parlar. He is a Captain in the Turkish Navy, stationed at Golcuk. His daughter, Ahu Parlar, attends a leading university in Istanbul. There is a friend of Cem's who would probably remember me since I had lunch with him when he visited the US. His name is Admiral Engin Baykal and he works in the submarine program of the Navy.
