Tropical Storm Floyd has formed in the Atlantic Ocean hundreds of miles east of the Caribbean... but hurricane forecasters say there's NO immediate threat to land. The center of Floyd is located about 750 miles east of the Leeward Islands and is moving to the west-northwest at about 15-miles-an-hour. Maximum sustained winds are about 45-miles-an-hour. Forecasters say the storm is expected to strengthen in the next 24 hours. Floyd is the sixth tropical storm of the 1999 Atlantic hurricane season.

Writing from the United States Virgin Islands - the storm is not a treat to us - we are however receiving heavy rains which are expected to continue for a couple days.

Hurricane Floyd, strengthening as it moves over warm waters in the Atlantic Ocean, will soon become a major storm that could threaten the Bahamas and the United States within days, forecasters said.

Here we go again...I hope the news media is worse than things will actually be there in the Bahamas with Floyd. Irregardless, the Bahamian people have my best wishes and prayers for none or minimal injury/damage. I will be keeping track. I am using Linda R cause there is another Linda that sometimes posts on here.

Significant safety concerns for family, friends, and property on San Salvador, Rum Key, Turks & Cacos. If anyone is on line there Please post to messaging board, I know there are those monitoring short wave radio on San Salvador; Please radio The "Pitts" Sandra & Nick on San Salvador and forward any request or messages. There was very little news before after and during Dennis.
Sincerely. wp

Nassau_ New Providence.

We are being advised to stay at home/ move to a dsignated shelter in order to prepare for Tonight and tomorrow. Radio stations now on warnings every 5-10 minutes with full instructions.

More worrying for eleuthera, exumas etc at the moment. I'll be online from now till it passes or we lose net connection. I'll try to get back and update. Email me at: ben@thyme-online.com

Hi, I'm watching nervously from east coast USA,as I have friends on Nassau & Harbour Island. I also plan to visit both in mid-October, already have tickets and hope I get to use them! My primary concern, however, is for my Island friends, both those I've met and those i have'nt yet, so I appreciate the invite i got from the fun and informative Bahamas Newsgroup to be part of this hopeful/ helpful service. Gives a whole new meaning to the old addage, "keep us posted"! I will await good news regarding my favorite little corner of the world.

It is 8:19am in Colorado and this morning someone from Associated Press in Washington DC called to see if we heard from anyone on San Salvador. We can't get through. I will post anything I hear from anyone. Wendy, I tried to call the Pitt's and BEC and Batelco. No luck.
