Yesterday's attack at a Russian convoy near the village of Serzhen-Yurt proves that it is too early to pull out Russian forces from Chechnya, Colonel General Gennady Troshev, in charge of the Joint Grouping of federal forces, told a Khankala news conference today. According to him, it is not proper to seek a dialogue with bandits fighting for money too.

The General reported on 13 servicemen killed, 6 wounded and 4 pieces of materiel destroyed during the attack. The convoy moving from Khankala consisted of 22 vehicles. Leading and guarding the convoy were two armoured combat and an anti-aircraft vehicles, according to the Commander. The convoy was attacked by about 80 to 100 militants from the two sides. We should not reproach federal commanders. They were quick to offer a good rebuff, said General Troshev. Six militants were killed and 11 taken prisoners during a 2-hour fighting. The prisoners are now interrogated by related secret services, said the General

Russia needs no mediators in either foreign states or foreign public organisations, who would be in charge of the political settlement in Chechnya. This is what the secretary of the national Security Council Sergey Ivanov told the ITAR-TASS news agency, commenting on the proposal on that score by the OSCE chairman Benita Ferrero-Valdner. Viktor Yenikeev has these comments.

The question that arises is this: why are the Westerners and certain organizations in the Western countries are so insistent in imposing their participation in the political settlement in Chechnya?

As you know, neither Northern Ireland, nor India or Sri Lanka, or indeed African countries have made such massive efforts to involve themselves in this process. Each sovereign country regards this as its lawful right to settle its domestic affairs without any help from the outside. And what's more, one can't ignore that stubborn insistence, with which these proposals are following each other. It appears that those in the West are turning a blind eye to the fact that the Russian head of state Vladimir Putin and foreign minister Igor Ivanov have repeatedly and flatly rejected them. However, of importance here is that Russia remains absolutely open to the Western public opinion. Over 500 foreign journalists have been accredited in the North Caucasus now. Dozens of delegations from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the European Parliamentary Assembly, the European Union, the United Nations and some other influential organizations have visited Chechnya recently. But the North Caucasians have received no real help from them. As for the most zealous human rights defenders, it appears that only few of them visited Chechnya or one might think, that they have displayed no interest at all in the crimes that were committed under General Dudaev or his successor Aslan Maskhadov. It seems that neither the Western governments nor any international organisations are unaware of and unwilling to punish those, who cut off the Britons' heads, took hostages and tortured French, German, Canadian, and other countries' citizens. Meanwhile Russia would welcome the establishment of an independent public commission for the investigation of all crimes committed in the North Caucasus after 1991, as the secretary of Russian Security Council noted. Possibly, the envoys of a number of the European Union countries, who went to the North Caucasus some time ago, will be able to better understand what is happening there in reality

CHECHNYA BECAME CENTRE OF STOLEN VEHICLES' TRADE

Militia officers found five stolen automobiles during the last 24 hours in Chechnya. The Russian Interior Ministry's interim press centre in the North Caucasus informed RIA Novosti that the drivers of the stolen cars were arrested as well.

The Russian highway patrol militia department in Chechnya dedicates the largest part of its work in searching of such stolen vehicles and those who had conducted theft, the press centre noted. During the years of the self-declared independence, Chechnya became a centre of the stolen automobiles' trade. At present about 2,000 stolen cars have already been found on the territory of the republic.

56TH SESSION OF UN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION ADOPTS, ON RUSSIA'S INITIATIVE, RESOLUTION ON HOSTAGE-TAKING AND APPROVES DRAFT RESOLUTION RELATING TO HUMAN RIGHTS AND TERRORISM

The 56th session of the UN Human Rights Commission has adopted, on Russia's initiative, a resolution on hostage-taking and approved a draft resolution relating to human rights and terrorism, with Russia as one of this latter's co-authors, the Russian Foreign Ministry's information and press department told to RIA Novosti.

The fact of approval by the Commission of the above documents confirms that terrorism and hostage-taking as one of its forms have no borders and may affect citizens of any country, Ministry officials point out. The Commission has expressed confidence that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, wherever it is committed and by whoever, shall be justified under no circumstances, including as a means of promotion or protection of human rights.

The Commission has declared the necessity of unconditional condemnation of all acts, methods and practice of terrorism as acts directed against human rights, basic freedoms, and democracy and posing a threat to territorial integrity and security of states, destabilising legally formed governments, undermining pluralistic civil society and lawfulness, and having negative effects on the social and economic development of nations.

IGOR/DIMITRI

Russia is doomed to fail in Chechnya. Ambush after ambush will blead Russia to slow death. Thousands of fighters are queving to get into action. No one can help Russia now. Putin's honeymoon is about to reach a climax in entire Caucausus. It is Russia which is begging Aslan to stop the war before it is too late. Aslan has rejected the idea and told that he was misquoted about the peace overtures. Now the real war starts. No more honeymoon but funeral after funeral.

Better take a long vacation to avoid further embarassment about Russian 'victory' or migrate to some other message board. There are some just for you - mental.asylum.com or putin.crazy.com

Better,

AT&T Wireless - biggest IPO offering ever (360mln.)!!! That means - stability and low risk. Being priced 4/26/00. Since you're collecting opinions - I would not worry about investing the whole100K - afterall it is #2 US mobile phone service provider (behind Verizon Wireless). The rating were hard to find, most of the experts say - NEUTURAL (not bullish, nor bearish). I say invest as much as you can - the company has a future.

Dimitri

under taker,

A victory is a victory. After a WWII the leftovers of German units did some partizan activities for nearly 2 1/2 years, screaming that it's not over. Well, it's over.
Today we have a similar situation where after being victorious, we are cleaning the rest of the scum. It does take rather a long time, but the outcome is/will be the same. Does your little pride hurt? The check out the following site - www.cryingwimps.chechnya.com - it is for whinners like you.

Thanks Dimitri,
That's what I'm hearing from everyone. Heck I was just "given" 250 shares at the initial offering price, can't beat that for nothing. Now to dump all my money! Thanks for the web sites I'll take a look at them. Now back to the work at hand, tear Jake B. a new ass with some good old insults. Is it true that he has a web site with a picture of his scranny ass? If so what's the name of the site?
