MOZDOK, Russia (CNN) -- Russian troops are in a position to capture Chechnya's capital within a day, but have held off in order to avoid heavy casualties, a Russian commander said Tuesday.

The comments by Gen. Viktor Kazantsev came as heavy fighting raged around the city of Grozny, the battered capital of the rebellious republic.

Well, according to the latest numbers from www.gazeta.ru the city of Grozny will be stormed in 48 hours. And from the 4'000 fighters there not many will survive. Those who read russian check the latest article in www.gazeta.ru, I think it's a trustful source. About Basayev, I read that he was wounded at the latest article about the war at news.bbc.co.uk, but I didn't have time to find it also it shouldn't be hard. So lets see what happens in the next 72 hours, how the sturm goes and than we all can go to celebrate the new milennium knowing that there are 4000 less terrorists on this planet
