I been in some parts of the Russia 10 years ago, and was amazed that communications minister of the state was making only $50 in a year. Poor guy, he had all the power, getting us around the city in an armour-plated car driven by body-guards, yet was not able to afford European goods sold in the black market. I am not saying this to put down the person, only to indicate how economically backward the place was. No wonder it's so easy to corrupt people in Russia.

Huge beautiful buildings from outside but with terrible furbishment inside, even trains in the metro was run down. I could not believe when I saw there were free public phones everywhere, only most was not working. Telecommunications system was still using old mechanical exchanges. The only good european cars was driven by ex-patriats and mafiyatos.

You could say that the place had seen much better days. In that sense I can understand why older Russians are yearning for good old days.

The only problem is, no one invented time machine yet, so for Russia to have good times, they have to be part of the civilised world. That means forgetting about empires. Its just too bad that, Bily boy, all your dreams are for nothing. Perhaps its time to grow and be more realistic.

It is a shame that some people like adder21 dare impersonate such intelligent analysts like kissie.
