A return to communism will not solve all of Russia's problems. This time around, they would need to alter the ways in which this ideology operates. In fact, Soviet communism did little to represent the views of Marx. It was actually Lenin who instilled the ideals of communism and conducted political and societal affairs into the form of an authoritarian dictatorship. Marx never stated that a single head of state would outweigh the power of all people. This is especially evident when regarding the working class. The Russian people stand to lose if such a system replaces the current model. The limitation of individual freedoms for political stability is a drawback for which the Russian people must evaluate when analyzing such notions.

Freed Rebel Vows War on India, U.S.
Hijack Figure Exhorts Supporters in Pakistan
By Amir Zia
Associated Press
Thursday, January 6, 2000; Page A13

KARACHI, Pakistan, Jan. 5—In a fiery speech to about 10,000 supporters here, one of three Islamic insurgents released from prison by India to end an airplane hijacking vowed today to fight to liberate Indian-ruled Kashmir and to attack American interests.

Maulana Masood Azhar, who came here from Afghanistan after the eight-day hijack drama ended Friday, told the crowd: "I have come back, and I will not rest in peace until Kashmir is liberated. . . . This is my duty--to tell you that Muslims should not rest in peace until we have destroyed America and India."

Azhar, leader of a radical Kashmiri rebel group called Harakat ul-Mujahedeen, said that the five hijackers who won his freedom in exchange for more than 150 hostages aboard the Indian Airlines plane were all Kashmiris. Speaking over a loudspeaker from inside a simple white mosque, he said the gunmen had returned to Kashmir, a Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, where they are "preparing for their next assault."

LOOK at what the guy is quoted as saying

Asgar
"dirty war of politics by bunch of criminal"

Here I agree with you and I can also agree with the following:

""who wants to win the election by sacrificing civilian lives and Russian soldiers" But it doesn't mean there is "not a single point worth fighting for. " They could have good reasons to fight in Chechenya.
I don't think the electorate would support an aimless war. They would have provocate this war only if they would be absolutely certain to win it. As they lost already one time a war there, I don't think they would have taken the risk to do it again just for elections.
On the contrary, it brought Yeltsin to resignation. He could stay as a president even ill as he can be but not in state of war.

The clue that the bomb blasts were masterminded by Russian secret services would change my mind.
But so far it didn't come up. Just gossips;
I would like to know (a link) where and when Gen.Lebed said that it was.
I think if such a prominent figure or other high rank witness would know something te west would be alerted and would react in a more energical way.

Igor,

"Also a independent republic that tolorates kidnapping and heroin production as it's contribution to mankind will not be tolerated.Especially when they were going to Russian cities and kidnapping people."

Christ, have you forgotten what the hell you're talking about? It's not okay in Chechnya but it is in Russia?

"That Berezovsky can thus play cozy with Russia's president explains a lot of what is happening in Russia these days. Russia is a bubbling cauldron of criminal organizations—Sicily on a giant scale. Last year some 40,000 people were murdered in Russia and 70,000 disappeared—probably never to be heard of again. The murder rate in Russia is three or four times higher than in New York City.

Assassination is a tool of business competition. Scores of business leaders and media personalities have been killed. Ivan Kivelidi, a banker and founder of the Russian Business Roundtable, was murdered last year by poison (an obscure nerve toxin) applied to the rim of his coffee cup. Neither this nor any other of Russia's most famous contract killings has been solved." Forbes 12/30/99

Please!!!

Igor,

Get your knickers straight will ya! If you READ the entire article it was agreed that:

"under the June 9, 1999, military technical agreement between NATO and Belgrade, and the subsequent Annex 2 of U.N. resolution 1244, a small, lightly armed contingent of Yugoslav soldiers and police is authorized to return to Kosovo to guard cultural sites and Yugoslavia's borders as well as aid in the clearing of minefields."

You make it sound as if you're going to battle. And may I remind you that our depleted uranium rounds just love that scrap metal the Yugoslavs call armour. Hell, he's already lost 3 or is it 4 wars now?

Answer this question IF you can. Why hasn't Slob put more attention to econonic growth and internal stability? I guess rattling swords is easier, huh?

Bones -

People that were kidnapped in Russia, usually Moscow or immediate areas around Chechnya (and brought to Chechnya) were kidnapped by Chechens living a those areas.

Fred -

There are plenty of Ukrainian Nationalists in Chechnya, it's a fact. However less than last war, I read that when they were defending Gudermes for Chechens, they were selling food to them.

Oh shoot, I was answering to your first paragraph.

"The murder rate in Russia is three or four times higher than in New York City."

I like this quote. A country that is almost as twice as large as US is compared to a single city!

Someone explain to me terrorists' tactics.

1. Allegedly take four villages.
2. Leave all but one.
3. Leave the last one.

As I mentioned before, why would anyone who is obviously outnumbered, leave their fortified positions and try to retake villages and then leave them?

R,

Compare the population of that city (how crowded) to the expanse of the Russian Federation. I think that sums it up. Remember, we're portrayed as the shoot'em up country with more arms/citizen.

O, here's a site you might find interesting.
