To do not bend for friends,
Your Turkey would not exist now if Great Britain did not help it at the last Russian-Turkish war. Brits were always enemies of Russians and it remains this way. Now they are trying to push Russians out of the Caucuses. But who will help poor Armenia?

to fred,
>>how many islamist fighter dead is not important to nobody
Good point. It is not important to me at all. It is a simple arithmetics. 10,000 cannot fight 100,000. So the "wolfs" are all dead already. Even Abdul does not count because Chechen losses are TOTAL.

>>>dead russian omon chicken headless. price per lbs I will pay 0.5c HURRY <<<
Nice now we have our own hannibal on this board! It is getting even sicker.

What should the "world" do about Chechnya? Nothing! The political chess game of Russia has the US in checkmate on (i) economic policy, (ii) foreign policy and (iii) economic aid to criminals. The old addage says that if you don't like the behavior of your kids, then cut them off at the pockets and wait for change.

I think your calculation is correct. (re. rebel causalties supplied by the Russian Information Centre). Wolves must be all dead already. Unfortunately someone forgot to tell this to wolves, how else you can explain the latest counterattacks on Argun, Shali, etc.

T. Mikles is right. Let's wait and see. I wonder how Russia could survive for a thousand years without Western aid. It will be a loooong wait.

Turk,
No way I am going to believe to the official reports of either side while this war is in the making. But the arithmetics is simple: two fight four times better than one under equal other conditions.

I haven't thought that you were stupid to believe the official reports. You are right in saying that numerical superiority is with Russians. If I'm not wrong 100,000 ministry of defence troops, plus 40,000 interior ministry troops vs. maybe 10,000 rebels. On the paper it is heavily lopsided towards Russians. However Chechens are motivated to keep fighting, but I don't think Russian side is as motivated. This might determine the outcome of this war in the long run.

Taliban want unified action against Russia

KABUL, Jan 8: Taliban leader Mulla Mohammad Omar on Saturday called for Muslim unity to stop Moscow's military operations in Chechnya.

In an Eid message to the nation, read out to thousands of Taliban officials and worshippers at the capital's Eidgah and broadcast by the official media, Omar slammed Washington for undermining the militia's efforts to bring the whole country under one central religious rule.

"I expect the world Muslim leaders and people to get united and cut short the hands of tyrant and oppressive forces off the weak Muslims".

"In particular, they should hear the cries of the Chechen Muslims and seriously ask the Russians to stop their naked aggression against Chechnya," the message said.

It also said countless Taliban soldiers had offered their lives to for the establishment of Shariat.

"But some countries, particularly America, do not allow this aspiration of our people to come true," it said, accusing Washington of harassing the Afghans under various excuses.

It cited the mid-November US-sponsored United Nations aviation and financial sanctions against the Taliban for harbouring Osama bin Laden.

The Taliban reclusive leader's message urged Afghans "not to bow to any aggressive and non-Muslim power and to be steadfast against oppressors' egoism".

It accused the non-Muslim world of trying to corrupt the world Muslims by dragging them to earthly values.

"They say that the world has advanced and you (Muslims) have lagged behind and because of these corrupt thoughts, the (non-believers) make them (believers) enemies of God's religion," the message said. It called on the Muslims to "preserve their piety and not to be cheated by such false propaganda".

In Kabul thousands of believers rushed to the capital's mosques to offer Eid prayers. At the huge central Eidgah several thousands of locals and Taliban officials congregated under tight security.

Locals were bodily searched before being let inside while armed militia soldiers were on the mosque's rooftop to keep an eye on worshippers.

Taliban jet fighters were flying low over the city during prayers as a show of strength of the ruling militia.-AFP With these kind of statements I think the solution is simple---CUT THE CANCER AT ITS HEAD NUKE AFGHANISTAN and end the problem once and fore all. This Muslim problem will continue till they take over the world so let's do it now instead of later.

"Russia's brutal war against the Chechens has brought out an ugly side of Russian society: a near-racist cheerleading, even among the most democratic Russians, for the cruelest actions by the Russian Army. - by Lars Erik Nelson, Daily News"

Igor,
Are you living in Afganistan? Why are you afraid of muslims so much? Are you sure that you are not turning to one of those looking for "Muslims" under the bed? If you remember this was a famous saying, I only replaced "Commies" with "Muslims".

FredDeLingue, main goal would be to reattach belarus and ukraine into "Soviet" Union. Baltics might have there say in wether or not they want to join but then again, i am not the one that makes plans, and i certainly can't see the future.

my relative was in gorod tazhin kemerovskaya oblast for 25 years. When kruschev came to power he freed him. Another place to look at in terms of people being sent into exile is in siberia, the city of magadan. First they were sent by train and later by planes.

"Both analysts said they thought Moscow would do all it could to maintain a positive image of the war in the minds of the Russian electorate. Both believe Russian troops will soon launch a fresh and heavier assault, in a bid to shore up would-be president Putin's popularity.

'If Russia loses the offensive now, the people will start forming a different impression of the war, which will start looking more and more like what they lived through in 1994-1996,' Trenin said.

Russian failure in Chechnya would heavily damage Putin's election campaign, Trenin said. Felgenhauer said a total withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya would be tantamount to political suicide for Putin.-AFP"

Here we go. Conducting the war against another nation to become president. So all those BS was a pretext to justify the war Putin must have to be president. He's not the first one, and certainly will not be the last one who brought death and destruction to grab power.

turk, yes i agree. In my opinion, if communists want to win, chechen war must fail for the russians so putin will look back. Most desirable choice would be then is Zyuganov. Its a sick game of politics and power. And none of you understand.
