According to this number of chechen fighters sneak in the Stavropl area of russia.
here is a link in russian
http://lenta.ru/vojna/2000/07/06/stavropol/

I think it is relatively o.k. news source. I saw some articles here which were later posted on yahoo. Nevertheless, be your own judge 🙂

I seems that fighting is not over for very long time. I do not believe that russia will be able to solve this problem while its economy is not good.

just my 2c

p.s. Jake change your name (remove your last name) from the profile if you do not want it to be shown.

thanks

I've asked Russian folks, working here, to decode "gyote" and the only meaning they were able to come up with is "Goethe", famous German poet, if his name is reverse-transcribed in Latin from Russian. Take it or leave it.

gyote aka gyotveran = a fag

mama t'hunem, djian. Cheers.

Drake, that seems to be the problem. The Russians don't have an end game to this conflict. It is like the US in Vietnam. The question was asked. General what is your plan to end the war....Answer i think we need more troops. The Russians plan to end the war seems to be stick it out and kill as many Chechen fighters as possible. These kinds of conflicts seem to be the hardest for a modern army to handel when the front lines don't really exists.

Gonzo,
good point. It does seem like an ongoing process, that most of pro-Russians would have expected to be over by now. But just like vietnamese were getting external help (from Russians, for instance), the rebels are getting help from a) Afganis(read: Pakistanis), b)numerous terrorist organizations c)merceneries and d)people who believe the rebels are doing the great thing. Actually I am not very surprised it is dragging on for almost a year, back in Fabruary, after being asked, I gave my humble predictions that this would not be over for ,at the very least, another year.

Dimitri, true. In this conflict just like Vietnam when the side that opposed the US or Russia tried to fight a major battle (not the hit and run stuff) they were beaten back badly.

I've just checked "gyotveran" with them - still unknown. It's probably in the same relation to Russian, as Ebonics to English

"What ever problems the Koreans had it was their problem, the US had no right to interfere. Since the US attacked North Korea..." Once again trying to re-write history. It was North Korea that attacked South Korea where US troops were still stationed from the end of WWII. Now if South Korea wanted to US to help defend against an invasion there is nothing wrong with it, plus the UN voted to defend South Korea so there was not just US troops but Belgins, Aussies, English and many others. Now I asked who is better off today and the response is a list of yeas not so good leaders in South Korea but the people in the south have , since the end of the fighting, have enjoyed a far higher rate of income and freedoms. Let me ask you this. Today would you rather live in North or South Korea? before you answer remember there is not much food in N. K. plus saying anything bad about the government lands you in jail. You can not own property. There is no freedom of the press and all the other fun things that come with communism, a failed ideology that has to build walls to keep people in rather than keep people out.

As has just recently been revealed, the U.S. regime had to restrain the South Koreans from invading the North, and even slapped some kind of oil and gas rationing on South Koreans to restrain their madness. So in fact, it was South Korean aggression that started the Korean War. And if the South Koreans wanted the U.S. to assist their aggression against North Korea, that still doesn't give the U.S. a legitimate reason to stick its nose where it doesn't belong.

So what is different about NK and US? Saying anything bad about the US draws all kinds of fire on oneself from jingoistic xenophobic Americans.

So what if South Korea enjoys higher incomes. Bank robbers do as much.

There is no difference then between NK and the US, as neither have press freedom and the media in both countries parrots only their respective regimes' propaganda.

While communist regimes like NK build walls to keep people in, communist regimes like the US builds the massive Social Security system to keep people in and keep tabs on them.

Mask,

quick explanation:

#1 the word gyote is strickly Armenian and not Russian. So if your Russian co-wokers never interacted with Armenians who tend to swear that should hopefully give you a clue as for why they don't know that.

#2 The Only reason I know it is because back in my days in Odessa, I had an Armenian friend, Arthur who was kind enough to enlighten me on all sorts of form of Armenian profanity. "Gyote" was one of them

#3 Gyotveran is the dialect for "gyote" among the Azerbaijan born Armenians (as far as I know), but nontheless an Armenian form, say Erevan, can easily recognize that insult.

#4 If you're still having a difficult time believing me, I would suggest for you to find a best source of providing the truth - an Armenian. Simply ask him/her of the meaning.

"Just recently been revealed." Where...where was it recently been revealed.? If so they were no very prepared considering the NK army nearly drove the SK army along with the Americans off the pensulla.

"Theres no difference between NK and US."

Really walk into the middle of the mall at Washington D.C. and shout down with America and its government (with police near by)

Then walk into the middle of the NK capitol and shout down with North Korea and its government...(with police near by)

I think you will notice a difference.

"So what if South Koreans enjoy higher incomes, bank robbers do as much." So do hard working people under a capitolist system.

So social security keeps people in? Before I comment how do you figure that?

Mask,

LOL. Yeap, I know what you mean. Antonio took a liberty to speak for all of us Russkies, when in fact only so few actually know anything in Armenian.

Antonio,

you seem to know a lot about Armenians, which I don't doubt, but I think you're incorrect about 1 thing - I trully don't think Armenians from Armenia hate Jews. At least Armenians that I knew (about half a dozen form Kirovokan and a couple from Erevan). And WHY the heck should they - Armenians are the only other nation in the world whose percentage ratio of lost human lives throughout the history could match the Jewish one. That is if you do not take the Gypsies into the account. Mutual sufferings usually unite souls and do not fill them with hatred as you claim.

As for Lebanese, well..SOME (not all) have a tooth against Israelis (due to a local conflict) and NOT towards the Jews of theb World. That would be a Palestinian department.

I have read many posts here, many good, many bad. I have no problem with difference of opinion. Thats what makes the world interesting. What really irks me though are the posts by the two resident DMS clowns: namely, Antonio and Jake B. One claims to be a rabid catholic, the other some kind of loony Jew (with a sword!).

Antonio is a medacious creature who fabricates garbage about the faiths of others, whereas Jake threatens to use his 'sword' on Igor!
Both have serious mental health issues that need to be resolved.
