...and I shall again embrace the placid sanctuary of obscurity. Well folks, I'm off for an extended vacation in an effort to neutralize my anxieties before departing for my graduate studies. First of all, I wish nothing but the best for all of you. Although disagreement is commonplace, I realize that most of the members on this board are under the persuasion of understanding. I believe that is the whole point of argumentation. The spectrum of a particular subject is increasingly encompassed when other viewpoints (even ones which serve to conflict) are introduced. If we are to strive for objectivity, we must understand these principles. Sometimes we must set aside our own convictions to achieve such an outcome. Some are adept at this process. Others are utterly deficient. At times, I am afraid I have fallen into this trap of blind subjectivity. However, to merely acknowledge such is a personal victory indeed. Anyway, enough of my parting lecture. I am priveledged to have interacted with such astute individuals and wish nothing but the greatest outcomes in lasting happiness, and of course, the ultimate pursuit of unbiased knowledge. Russia Captures Chechen Commander

MOSCOW – Russian federal police in Chechnya on Tuesday captured one of the top rebel commanders in the war-torn republic, Russia's official Itar-Tass news agency reported.
Police said they apprehended Abu Arsanukayev "without firing a single shot" in the village of Tsa-Vedeno, in a home where he had been living.

Arsanukayev, 44, is a prominent figure in the Chechen rebel leadership. In 1992, Chechnya's late independence leader Dzhokar Dudayev appointed him chief of security in the republic. Dudayev needed someone who could isolate notorious Chechen gangster Ruslan Labazanov, who was increasingly interfering in security matters. Arsanukayev met the challenge, eliminating Dudayev's foes and joining the leader's inner circle.

Arsanukayev was one of the few people Dudayev is said to have trusted as feuding among several rebel factions raged. In April 1996, after Dudayev's death, Arsanukayev was named deputy prosecutor of the self-proclaimed Chechen republic of Ichkeria.

Last year, Chechnya's elected president, Aslan Maskhadov, selected Arsanukayev to head his military headquarters.

The privately run NTV network reported Tuesday that Arsanukayev had denied any involvement in rebel activities against Russia's federal forces over the past 10 months. An investigation is under way.

Elsewhere in Chechnya, federal troops discovered a mobile television transmitter in Urus-Martan that rebels are suspected of using to relay TV signals within a 70-mile radius. Rebels have often gained access to state-owned frequencies to broadcast propaganda.
