Kisako, just need to clear some things up. "Direct bombing of the Chinese Embassy." Are you saying it was done on purpose? If so do you know that the air force wanted to go into downtown Belgrade much earlier but was prevented because of political reasons and went in it in that night it was considered a good night in a milatary sence, untill of course it was found out the Chinese Embassy was accdentally hit. The next day a 5 mile line was drawn arround Belgrade in which NATO plane were not allowed to bomb. The Air commanders thought this was a bad idea in a military sence. In other words the air force would have really wished the embassy was not hit for obvious reasons including it prevented them from following a more direct course on ending the war.

Jimmy Carter pushed thru the US congress in the late 70s the decree to give the canal to panama, (it won by one vote). Carter thought giving the canal to Panama would be a good goodwill gester to central America. Plus as far as the navys need for the canal for national protection is not what it was like back in WWII.

"Chinese rule it now (the canal)" China doesn't Panama does. A Chinese company was sold the rights to run the ports. One more thing in the treaty that Carter made with Panama allows the USA to at any time can interveen in the defence of the canal.

The next day a 5 mile line was drawn arround Belgrade in which NATO plane were not allowed to bomb.
* That's, probably, why other embassies were damaged (not big-time) later as well.
In other words the air force would have really wished the embassy was not hit for obvious reasons including it prevented them from following a more direct course on ending the war.
