MOSCOW -- Nine people, including a well-known journalist and an oil company executive, were killed Thursday when a private Russian plane crashed while taking off from a Moscow airport.

A spokeswoman for Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations said the Yak-40 jet with five crew and four passengers on board was bound from Moscow's
Sheremetyevo airport to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.

There were no survivors, spokeswoman Marina Ryklina said.

Official: Plane tilted, scraped runway

The plane, a medium range Soviet-era aircraft that carries 20-30 passengers, was on a charter flight, officials said.

RIA news agency quoted airport security service chief Mikhail Blinov as saying the plane tilted to one side as it rolled down the runway, then its wing scraped the ground, causing it to twist around 180 degrees and break apart.

Police said the aircraft's flight recorders had been recovered and were being examined, the ITAR-Tass news agency reported. So far, investigators are studying "technical aspects of the tragedy," and foul play has not been ruled out, airport security officers told the news agency.

The Moscow Transport Prosecutor's office opened a criminal investigation to determine whether any safety rules had been violated.

Journalist, oil company executive among those killed

The oil company Alliance Group said in a statement that its chairman, Ziya Bazhayev, and the head of the media group Sovershenno Sekretno (Top Secret),
Artyom Borovik, died in the crash along with two other Alliance employees.

Borovik was a well-known journalist whose holding company owned mainly investigative newspapers.

Moscow's Sheremetyevo-1 domestic airport and Sheremetyevo-2 international airport, which share runways, were briefly closed after the crash.

Well let me join the debate. First off Antonio your opinions on how you would have dealt with the US and Britain would have caused more people to suffer. If Milosevich had done as you suggested he would have made the Serb people suffer more. Point in fact you're not thinking about the welfare of the people, only how you would have reacted.
