Even the Iranians know the Turks for the brutal barbarians they are. Yesterday at work an Iranian co-worker remarked to me "...well yeah, the Turks man, they're known for being brutal and viscious, almost as viscious and brutal as the Afghanis."
Iran protests ``mass arrest'' of citizens in Turkey
TEHRAN, May 23 (Reuters) - Iran summoned the Turkish ambassador on Monday to protest against the mass arrest of Iranians in several
Turkish cities, the official IRNA news agency reported.
``This situation has strongly worried Iran and the responsibility for this inhuman act remains with the Turkish government,'' IRNA quoted an
Iranian foreign ministry official as telling the ambassador.
``Iran condemns this act and demands a halt to the arrest of Iranians in Turkey and release of those detained,'' he said.
IRNA said earlier Turkish police and security forces had picked up about 500 Iranians in ``violent and orchestrated'' raids on Saturday
in homes and hostels in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. But it said about 350 of them were released after interrogation.
Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi strongly condemned the arrest of Iranians in Turkey.
``This is an ugly act outside diplomatic and international norms. It is not in line with our neighbourly principles. Iran will exhaust all
its means to stop this trend,'' he said.
The Turkish interior ministry said on Monday police had arrested 259 Iranians on Sunday in Istanbul suspected of being illegal immigrants.
``The legal procedure was launched for a total of 22 people. Among them 19 were working illegally and the other three were lacking passports,'' the ministry said in a statement, adding that the other 237 people had been released.
It did not refer to other arrests cited by IRNA.
An interior ministry official dismissed any link between the detentions of the Iranians and the simmering tension between Ankara and Tehran over political killings in Turkey.
``There is absolutely no connection. These operations against illegal workers and those who stay in Turkey with invalid passports began in
March. Sunday's operation was just part of it,'' the official who declined to be named told Reuters.
The Turkish press has said police hunting Islamic rebels suspected of having killed secularist intellectuals in the 1990s had arrested more
than 100 people in a recent nationwide crackdown.
The newspapers accused Iran of involvement in the political killings and said the alleged killers had training and logistic support from
groups in Iran.
Relations between officially secularist Turkey and its Islamic neighbour are often tense. Ankara accuses Tehran of sheltering Kurdish rebels and sponsoring radical Islamic groups in Turkey.
Iran denies the accusations. Tehran, for its part, is angry over growing ties between its western neighbour Turkey and Israel, Iran's
arch foe.
A Turkish foreign ministry official said on Monday Foreign Minister Ismail Cem had asked his Iranian counterpart in a letter delivered
over the weekend for cooperation on security issues.

Dear U.R.N., that's circulate. And the question still stands apart from myself, who is questioning Igor's posts? Most people don't bother reading them! At least, I have the curtesy to pay attention to what he is saying, and I have as much right to express my opinion, as you or he.
I don't quite understand why that is ganging up on him (Nobody else has questioned him). Unless of course, you feel he is incapable of standing up to me. Some friend you are, even I have a higher opinion of Igor.

"Taiwanese are sure asking for war. First they donate money to Tibetan government in exile, then they
detain Chinese ship. Geez, feeling lucky or what?"
Hell, they've been defying China(a nuclear power, with the largest army in the world) for decades.
Britain caved in at the slightest sign of trouble and so will the U.S., their heroes and protectors.
Like The U. S. will really go to war with China...
Hats off to them, when your back's against the wall, you might as well go down fighting.
More than any of us over-protected lot could cope with. Ay?

Chechen is 'rag tag' army. They are no less rag tag than the Afghan freedom fighters who put the last nail in the coffin of Soviet Russia.
During the Afgann war one correspondent was surprised during a visit to Afganistan and wrote that after seeing the fighters he thought he was in biblical times and only the wrist watches on afghans made him realize that he was not dreaming. Western Press was ridiculing the Afgans as 'pajama clad guerillas' in the beginning of Afghan war but when the Russian heads started rolling in the mountains of Afghanistan then the rag tag army was acclaimed as the legendary guerilla fighters who never allowed any one in history to conquer them. When Soviet Army went into Poland, Hungary and Czech there was no resistance although the Europeans were 'civilized'. No one dare throw even eggs on the Soviet tanks and this gave the stupid Soviet Generals that Afgans will surrrender in 'few' hours or days. But the Afghans pne of the poorest and 'primitive' peoples in the world prevailed over the largest Army in the world even after suffering millions of civilian casualties.
And very soon the Chechen rag tag army will put the last nail in the coffin of Russian Federation. History is witness that even during this so called technological age the sheer will power and faith of the legendary Chechen fighter will crush the remnants of the vodka Army. The situation of Chechens is now much better than during the Stalin's depotation. They are fighting on the home turf and joined in their epic struggle by thousands of volunteers whose only desire is martydom.

Moscow meeting condemns Russian banditry
MOSCOW (AP) -- An influential group of writers from around the world ended a congress in Moscow on Saturday with a harsh condemnation of Russia's military campaign in breakaway Chechnya, accusing the government of masking the truth about the war.
A resolution by the 67th International PEN Congress said the conflict was having a damaging effect on all of Russian society.
The PEN Congress is "convinced that all Russian society has suffered from this war, demoralized by militarization, cruelty, intolerance, the escalation of violence and grief that have affected thousands of families all over Russia misled by propagandist information," the resolution said.
Human rights groups and Western governments have accused Russian troops in Chechnya of torture, murder and rape. They say the government has caused needless civilian casualties in the campaign.
International PEN, which claims a membership of more than 10,000 writers around the world, advocates freedom of expression and campaigns for the freedom of writers imprisoned because of their work.
Every thing you said Saladin is one of Ali Baba's Faerie Tales. You are foolish to believe that crap. The war has united the people.Law and order will be restored in Chechnya and in Russia itself.Putin has started to go after the biggest crooks --the oligarchs.Wait till Afghanistan gets bombed<I bet you it will be a big one that will teach them idiots a lesson they will never forget.Fred my house is the same size and I did say it was 1300 sq meters.I am not really familiar with conversion of feet to meters but I approximated that it was 3 feet=1 meter.
Saladin the Serbs were accused of all kinds of things and later it was mostly all proven to be fabrications and hallucinations of Klinton and Halfbright. The media has reporteda lot of bull on Chechnya and after the incident of the German reporter was proven to be a lie the news on Chechnya dropped from coverage in all the papers and on the news. The only news you can read about now is on the net.So do not sweat it.
When I moved I had no satellite or cable and I was wondering what happened to Elian Gonzalez after he was reunited with his father.Did they go back to Cuba?
