FLASHBACK: American Civil War.

The Confederate States seceede from the rest of the country as permitted by the US Constitution (don't argue this point. Read the Constition and the Declaration of Independance - the Union was formed for the mutual welfare of the States, the South had every right to seceede). The North sends troops and uses scorched earth technique to devastate Southern infrastructure (how many cities were a blaze, why is there still animosity b/w the two sides). The 'Rebellion' was quelled and after northen occupation, the South was reunited with the 'United' States. The Chechen Rebellion is illigal. Russia left Chechnya alone. However, not mentioning the supposedly questionable bombings, the Chechens attacked neigboring Russian and Ingush towns after their 'independence.' Quelling these attacks is a matter of defending Russia from foreign invasion (for those of you who consider Chechnya a seperate country) or destroying bandits (if you believe Chechnya is part of Russia).

By the way, HUMANITARIANS, did the UN, or ANY WESTERN country acknowledge CHECHNYA as a COUNTRY? I wonder why that is.

I am not very familiar with the history behind the conflict in the Caucaus Region. I know a little bit, but I was hoping you could provide me some more historical background on this. Thanks. I think some of the 'learned' westerns out there should hear this too.

A word of advice to british and american females.
DO NOT date Russian men. Even if you are lucky and they don't beat you up after getting drunk. There is a good chance they may be carrying Bombs, drugs and counterfeit currency with them.

I feel very sad about this new war in Chechnya. I have friends who live over there. Russian society is manipulated by its ruling elite. Hate is fuelled against Chechen and other Caucasian people. What will happen in the long run???
There is no military solution, only political wisdom can solve complex web of past mistakes and grievances. Caucasus is independent land, which was conquered by Russia during 19th century after bloody war against mountaineers.
We live in the time of great change, just to mention the fall of Berlin wall. The war in Chechnya is part of this worldwide change. In the long run Chechen nation will achieve political independence and will be recognised in the world as an independent State. Next turn will be Dagestan. In the long run criminal Russian policy towards Caucasus will fail. If we look into the past history then all Russian government brought to the Caucasus is WAR and DESTRACTION of CAUCASIANS. I feel very sorry for Russian nation for inability to change government system in their country and for seeing Caucasians as their enemies. This will only fuel existing hate and bring long-term crisis and self-destruction to Russia. Think about Russia in long term and consequencies for the world...........

I couldn't agree with you more. It's is truly sad that war has engulfed that region. I have family there as well, except they are on Russias side of the conflict. I have a cousin fighting in the Russian army. War is a sad occurence. I visited the Caucasus region as a child and have very fond memories of it. Part of my ancestry traces back to people from that region. However, please look carefully at all the propoganda before. THERE IS NO WAY TO DECIDE WHO IS RIGHT OR WRONG. My grandmother calls and tells of local towns being raided. The media tells of Russian Warplains screaming over Grozny. Who can you side with? MY CONCERN IS THAT THE WESTERNERS HAVE LOST MOST SENSE OF INDEPENDENT THINKING. They believe what the media tells them and with their blind convictions they furthur fuel the fires of war. Just listen to some of the hate-filled messages. Thay base everything on what they are told to believe. This definetely a war where everyone looses. There isn't a war that's not like that. What my hope is that the Western observers stop and think for a second perhaps long enough to realize that they have no right to judge others.

No one can deny that both sides are commiting atrocities. And I see no solution to the conflict. Perhaps one day reason will prevail. For now, the West should not interfere just because the media swings public opinion a certain way.

It is claimed that Western society is leading the world because of the Freeflow of information and knowldege. This is your strong asset, not money, or weapons. Use this to help the rest of the world to come to their senses instead of policing sense into them.

What is wrong with you people. God says everyone and everything has a right to be on this planet. There are no reasons to be proud of dying. Feed and help the people of the world. All of the pollutions across the world will be killing the majority of the population within the next 50 years. So wake up now!
