Kim , I guess I didn't make my point clear. Anyway you know as well as I Albright would never make a policy U-turn on this issue which makes my point kind of mot. But I do not beleive that there is not some kind of New World Order type of conspircy when it came to the break up of Yougosalvia. I think the citizens of the former republics can be blamed for the breakup, they were not happy under Belgrades rule. Now as far as the western media trying to make this guy look like a stooge, I doubt it. 60 minutes in my opinion does some good reporting and as far as polictical agendas they have done more stories that make the US governement look bad than good, hence I doubt they would be out to do anything that would try to "prop up" US policy. Anyway the interview is on tonight so lets see.

Gonzo, I'm just surprised that he came out and said it, I think there may have been a subclause missing from that sentence. Kostunica goes and meets the Bosnian Serb leaders, and makes a point of not meeting with pro-western leaders one day, the next day he admits Serb responsibility for Killings in Kosova?
The media are just aching to portray him as the answer to all Nato's problems, as yet he hasn't taken a pro-western line.

I don't get CBS, so will appreciate it if someone can give me a full quote. Cheers!

And as for the idiot posting above, you and I know he is full of it!

In that 60 minute thing Kostunica said that SM is guily of crimes and he also included Klinton and Blair. Also the moderators opening was interesting in that he said that Kostunica accomplished what Nato couldn't and that he beat SM in a democratic revolt

Well here is the joke of the day.If they can criticize Russia over Chechnya they had better start criticizing Isreal also.

U.S., EU Renew Criticism Of Russia Over Chechnya

MOSCOW, Oct 25, 2000 -- (Agence France Presse) The United States and European Union Tuesday renewed their criticism of Russia for "gross violations of human rights" in Chechnya, and advanced the view the conflict was ethnic in nature.

"The European Union remains very concerned by the ongoing military operations in the Northern Caucasus, where we have been witnessing gross violations of human rights," the EU said in a statement delivered to OSCE's conference on human rights and democratization being held in the Polish capital.

"Of particular concern is the indiscriminate use of force against persons belonging to particular ethnic groups," said the EU.

The U.S. delegate expressed concern that ethnic profiling had taken on an "institutional form" throughout Russia as news reports indicate police officers must report how many people from the Caucuses they arrest.

While the U.S. has previously acknowledged Russia's assertion that it was pursuing an anti-terrorist operation in Chechnya, the Chechen conflict "at its root ... is a manifestation of the misunderstanding of nationalist and ethnic aspirations within a multiethnic state," said State Department Special Advisor Tamara Resler.

The Russian delegate dismissed characterization of Chechen conflict as ethnic in nature as "misplaced."

Over 400 representatives from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's (OSCE) 54 member states and more than 130 non-governmental organizations are attending the 10-day conference on protecting civil and human rights

Chorny,

I respect 60 min. as it is one of the best. But the Moderator needs to avoid misleading sound bites.

Would there have been elections if no airstrikes were carried out? Would there be a Democratic change of gov't. if the people of Serbia not suffered economically and politicaly ?

NATO is not a political party in Serbia. How could they overthrow SM in democratic elections.

We funneled about $40 million to the opposition since day one! There would be no opposition if it weren't for us.

The best thing that happened to Serbia were NATO air strikes. People have already begun to realize this - and everyone will 20 years from now.

You can't possibly refer to the opposition as an independent political force. any such argument is totaly unfounded & false.
